Handcoloured engraved map depicting the ‘Leo Belgicus’, the most famous of all cartographic curiosities. The map shows the Netherlands and Belgium in the shape of a lion and is handcoloured in an attractive way. This version is based on the original Aitsinger form with the lion standing facing right with the right paw raised and holding a shield. The map was published as an engraved titlepage in the ‘De Bello Belgico Decas Prima’ by Famiano Strada, 1572-1649.
Measurements: (map) 15,8 x 9,1 cm. (including frame) 28 x 22 cm.
